| System documentation is more important than
ever. As information technology has become a business essential,
the need to document has also grown. Companies that are dependant
on their computers need to know how their computer systems are set
up. Owners need to know key passwords, domain expirations and
other details.
Often, the difference between a mediocre
project and an excellent project isn't known for months or years.
Everything works when they leave. Long after the vendors and
consultants are gone, something will change. Some detail will be
altered that impacts the system. Someone will be called in to work
on the system. The amount of downtime will depend on the amount of
sleuthing that needs to be done to find and fix the problem. Is
the documentation clear and complete? Is there even any
documentation at all? It should be considered an essential part of
any systems project.
